A Sacred Journey in Dance
Bharatanatyam Margam
Opening Invocation · 01
Offering of Flowers
Pushpanjali, meaning "offering of flowers," serves as the vibrant opening of this Margam, where the dancers seek the blessings of the Almighty, the Guru, and the audience. This piece combines rhythmic precision with graceful salutations, using movements that mirror the bright, energetic nature of the music to create a sacred atmosphere. It transitions seamlessly into a prayerful invocation, setting a divine tone for the artistic journey ahead.
Virutham
A divine salutation to Lord Ganesha, portraying him as the elephant-faced Gajamukham whose eyes radiate the celestial light of the sun and moon — Gananatha, the supreme reality and lord of the cosmic attendants.
Devotional Piece · 02
Parasakthi Janani
A soulful invocation to the Divine Mother, Parasakthi, portraying her as the primordial energy and compassionate protector of the universe. The piece allows the dancers to explore a range of bhava (expression) and bhakti (devotion), illustrating the Goddess's motherly grace and supreme power. Intricate rhythmic footwork blends with descriptive gestures, creating a deep spiritual connection and serving as a beautiful transition from pure rhythm into the thematic storytelling of the repertoire.
Keerthanam · 03
Krishna Keerthanam
This vibrant composition celebrates the enchanting divine form of Lord Krishna (Mādhavan), vividly describing his golden earrings (Kanaka Kundalam) and jingling anklets as he performs his celestial dance. The dancers use energetic footwork and expressive mudras to depict Krishna's pastimes — dancing upon the serpent Kāliya and lifting the Govardhana Hill — capturing the essence of Bhakti and inviting the audience to witness the playful yet powerful nature of the Divine Cowherd.
Centre Piece · 04
Konjum Salangai
The Varnam is the most intricate and demanding centrepiece of the Margam, testing the dancers' skill in both Nritta (pure dance) and Abhinaya (expression). Set in the melodious Rāgam Lathangi, this composition weaves complex rhythmic patterns with a deeply emotional narrative. The dancers skillfully balance energetic footwork with the nuanced portrayal of the Nayika's yearning and devotion. As the "tinkling anklets" echo through the performance, the piece builds to a crescendo of spiritual and technical intensity — a testament to the dancers' endurance and artistic depth.
Devotional Padam · 05
Sarinigar Samamana Daivam
A soul-stirring tribute to the supreme glory and compassion of Lord Ayyappa, the presiding deity of Sabarimala. The lyrics proclaim that there is no divinity equal to Him, born of the divine union of Hari and Hara. The dancers employ evocative Abhinaya to portray the Lord's peaceful yet powerful nature and the arduous, devoted journey of his pilgrims through the forest. The performance transforms into a meditative offering, filling the space with the vibrant energy of "Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa."
Cosmic Dance · 06
Anantha Narthana
This exhilarating piece captures the endless cosmic dance (Anantha Narthana) of the Supreme Lord, vibrating with the energetic pulse of creation. The choreography mirrors the vigorous rhythm of the universe through complex footwork and majestic, statuesque postures. The vibrant energy of Rāgam Nata, paired with dynamic and devoted expressions, transports the audience into a realm of pure, unbridled cosmic joy.
Krishna Padam · 07
The Enchanted Joy of Gokulam
This lively and melodious composition beautifully captures the vibrant, joyous atmosphere of Gokulam — the beloved childhood home of Lord Krishna. The lyrics paint a picturesque scene of the cows (pasukkal), the calves, and the Gopis, all completely mesmerised by the divine, soul-stirring music flowing from Krishna's magical flute. The dancers use expressive Abhinaya (emotive storytelling) to portray Krishna's playful interactions and the innocent, spellbound devotion of the residents of Vrindāvan, bringing a light-hearted, joyful, and deeply captivating energy to the Margam.
Joyous Culmination · 08
The Joyous Culmination of Pure Dance
The Margam reaches its vibrant culmination with the Thillana, a joyous, fast-paced celebration of pure dance (Nritta). Set to the captivating notes of Ragam Sivaranjani, the choreography features complex footwork, crisp movements, and striking sculptural poses building to an exhilarating crescendo. Interwoven within the dynamic Jathis is a brief, heartfelt lyrical passage where the dancers offer a final expressive surrender and salutation to the divine, bringing the artistic and spiritual journey to a dazzling close.

Ramachandraya Janaka
A joyous invocation of auspiciousness, this concluding piece reverently praises Lord Rama's divine compassion, gentle nature, and protection of his devotees.
